About Me…

My name is Rebecca Carney, and I was born and raised in Louisville Kentucky. I graduated from Indiana University on May 9th, 2020 with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism.During my time at IU, I learned about several aspects of the sports media industry. I enjoyed being able to bring stories to life with not only my words but with the moments I captured on camera. I have always been passionate about telling people's stories and being able to give a voice to those who may not have been given the chance to have one in the past.

While at IU, I took many classes and was a part of organizations that helped me develop many skills throughout the sports media industry. From classes such as News Writing, Reporting, and Editing to Audio Storytelling to  Visual Communications, I feel that IU has prepared me for a future career in multiple aspects of sports media.

Outside of the classroom, I had several internships that allowed me to gain exposure and put what I had learned in school to use. During the summer of 2019, I was a communications intern for ESPN Cleveland, an ESPN-affiliated radio station owned by Good Karma Brands. For two semesters I was a social media reporter for The Tab IU, a social media-based news outlet run by IU students.

Since graduating I have continued to work on my skills as a social media fellow for 786 Strategies, a sports marketing agency geared towards helping athletes share their stories. From March to October 2021 I was a broadcast production intern with the Tampa Bay Rays. It was a great experience getting to work for an organization like the Rays and I learned a lot about what goes on with the media behind the scenes.

Please take a look at my experiences and content below, and if you have any questions feel free to contact me.
